About Nautilus Solar

Since 2006, Nautilus Solar has grown into one of the largest U.S. community solar providers and a contributor to America’s clean energy transition. Nautilus currently operates and manages 167 community solar farms across 12 states and serves over 55,000 subscribers. Taking a unique, full-service approach, Nautilus handles project financing, development, construction, maintenance, and customer management for renewable projects. It delivers affordable, clean energy solutions to residential and commercial customers.

The Challenge

Community solar enrollments hinge on sizing each subscriber’s allocation accurately, based on historical usage and capturing required utility identifiers (account, meter, etc.). When selling through in-person and direct marketing channels, Nautilus needs these data points in seconds while the prospect is still engaged, not hours or days later from chased PDF bills.

Nautilus needed to achieve sizable yearly growth, but their previous utility data provider made reaching that goal difficult. Authentication stalled; bill retrievals failed; and constant data errors sent prospects dropping off before they ever became customers. Beyond the lost conversions, slow utility data collection consumed valuable team time and resources that could have been spent on growth. Nautilus concluded they needed a faster, more reliable solution; one that would let them onboard new customers efficiently, with the confidence that every account was sized accurately.

Built with Bayou

Nautilus embedded Bayou Energy’s sign-up component directly into their existing enrollment flow in days. From that point, authenticating a prospect’s utility account took under 3 seconds, and retrieving 12 months of bill history took 40 seconds, giving representatives everything they needed to size an allocation on the spot while the prospect was still engaged.

Still, speed only matters if the data is there when you need it. Bayou Energy successfully retrieved data in 98% of instances, eliminating the failed retrievals and manual corrections that had plagued Nautilus’ previous provider. And for the 16% of signups whose utility accounts required multi-factor authentication? Bayou Energy’s API handled it seamlessly, removing what had long been one of the biggest stumbling blocks to customer enrollment.

Looking forward

In addition to scaling customer enrollments in 2026, Nautilus plans to deepen the integration by continuously right-sizing community solar allocations as household usage changes, using Bayou’s utility API to monitor usage post-signup.

With utility data handled, Nautilus can stay focused on what they do best: powering communities across the U.S. with clean, affordable energy.
